Tooth Extractions Near You

While dentists do everything they can to keep patients’ natural teeth in their mouths for as long as possible, sometimes, tooth extractions are the only option to protect your overall oral health. While the thought of getting a tooth removed can be daunting, tooth extractions are a very necessary and common procedure for many. At City Square Dental Center, we provide our patients with simple and surgical tooth extractions in Vancouver.

When Are Tooth Extractions Necessary?

It is always best to keep your natural teeth in your mouth for as long as possible; however, there are some situations in which tooth extractions are the best treatment. Some cases where tooth extraction is required are:

  • Advanced gum disease
  • Impacted wisdom teeth
  • A tooth that has broken below the gum line
  • Preparing your mouth for orthodontic appliances

Simple vs. Surgical Tooth Extractions

At City Square Dental Center, we provide two types of tooth extractions near you: simple and surgical extractions.

Simple extractions are performed on those who have a tooth above their gum line that requires removal, such as an infected or cracked tooth. During this procedure, the area will be numbed before our dentist gently moves the tooth back and forth using an elevator tool until it is loose enough to lift out of the socket.

Surgical extractions are performed on those who have impacted wisdom teeth or teeth broken below the gum line. To perform a surgical tooth extraction, our dentist in Vancouver will have to create a small incision in your gums after numbing the area to access and remove the tooth or pieces of tooth. They will then sterilize the area before suturing it closed.

When you visit our dental clinic, our dentist will perform an in-depth evaluation of your oral cavity to determine which kind of tooth extraction is best for you.

Healing After a Tooth Extraction

Regardless of the kind of extraction you end up getting, it is not uncommon to experience a small amount of discomfort after the procedure. In the majority of cases, over-the-counter painkillers such as ibuprofen can help alleviate this discomfort. You may also notice some tenderness and swelling for the first couple of days after your extraction procedure. Ensure that you carefully follow your dentist’s instructions for aftercare to ensure that you heal effectively and quickly.
